SSAC New website

The following is the outline notes of a presentation given by Ian price to the SSAC committee regarding the planned new website set-up.

Why a new web site? Function & Form

Current

Content, Structure & presentation merged into one

Web 1.0 design

Changing one page requires every page on site to be updated

Changes can only be done by experienced users

Site looking tired and dated – due to difficultly in updating

New

New site based on Drupal 5.7 – Content Management System (CMS)

Web 2.0 design – Social Networking site

Content separate from Structure separate from presentation

Easy to change layout & design - themes

Allows any permitted user to add content

Who you are logged on as controls what you can see

Site should stay current and fresh, acting as a great advertisement for the club

New features are available:-

·             Blogs (web logs)
·             Club events and social calendar with sign-up online
·             User administered photo gallery allowing pictures from the latest dive
·             Secure, members only, contact list for email, phone, etc to help plan dives
