The website database contains all the content of the site and cannot easily be replicated. Regular backups are essential. Database backups are performed using an online prgoram called phpMyAdmin.
(a) Open a browser and go to http://mysql.salfordsac.org.uk/
(b) You will be prompted for a user name and password; see the separate admin email for details.
(c) From the dropdown box named 'Database' in the top left hand corner, select the _d6 database which is listed under Salfordsac
(d) Select <Export> from the tabs at the top of the right hand side of the window.
This brings up the View dump (schema) of database
(e) In the Export Section, click on <Select All> and ensure <SQL> is ticked
(f1) In the Options Section, ensure Structure is ticked
(f2) In the Options:Structure Section tick Add DROP TABLE / VIEW / PROCEDURE / FUNCTION
(g1) At the bottom of the screen, ensure Save as file is ticked and name the file _DB_yyyy-mm-dd_SalfordSAC.org.uk inserting todays date in yyyy-mm-dd (use this format to ensure correct sorting).
(g2) For Compression select "zipped" and click on go.
Note: When restoring, the maximum upload file size is 7.5Mb. The database is currently 13Mb unzipped, and 1.0Mb zipped.
(h) Your browser should pop up a dialog box asking to save the file. Select your backup locations and create the directory yyyy-mm-dd - SalfordSAC.org.uk inserting todays date in yyyy-mm-dd (use this format to ensure correct sorting).
Note: You may have already created this directory if you have performed the Files Backup first. Use the same directory for the same day.
The database backup is now complete.
Do not forget to backup the Files at the same time!
